Why has this decision been made?
Councillors agreed in March 2018 to improve the bike lanes on Te Whiti Street as a quiet route instead of adding new lanes to Yule Street.
Approved solutionCouncillors approved plans for kerbside bike lanes on Rongotai Road, between Onepu Road and Te Whiti Street, at a meeting on 8 March 2018. This route will connect with other new bike paths being developed in Kilbirnie and to Newtown.
Approved solution: Uphill bike lanes on one side with a raised buffer, sharrows in the downhill traffic lanesThis route is an important connection for people biking between Kilbirnie and Newtown, and to the central city. The design will give better protection for people on bikes.
Kilbirnie improvementsThese Kilbirnie projects will together provide safer and easier walking and biking connections to places including the Kilbirnie shops, Miramar, Newtown, and the central city via Evans Bay.
