From 5 June to 17 July 2018, we asked people who live, work, play, and travel in the Newtown Connections area to tell us about their travel in and around the area.
We met with schools, businesses, and other community groups in the area to promote the process and encourage their members to participate in the online engagement. We kept a record of who we've been in contact with and met.
All feedback will be used, along with earlier work and feedback to assess potential designs and produce a shortlist of options for engagement later this year.
The Newtown Connections area includes Berhampore, Newtown and Mt Cook. This map shows the area (yellow) and some of the key locations we need to consider.
The size and complexity of the area means there are a lot of possibilities, so we’re starting by finding out how you travel in the area, how easy it is to get around using different modes of transport, and what you value most in the area. At this stage there are no preferred routes or options.

Wellington City Council is looking at developing safer and more convenient cycling routes in Berhampore, Newtown and Mt Cook that will connect with important local facilities, and provide safer links to adjacent suburbs and the city.
Improvements to the cycle network will make it possible for more people of all ages and abilities to make some trips by bike. At the same time, we’ll look at possible improvements for people on foot, and in and around bus stops.
To help manage congestion as the city’s population grows, and make sure our roads can cope with the numbers who need or want to drive, we need as many people as possible to be walking, biking or taking public transport.
We have received feedback from the community about this project. Click here to view the summary graphs.
