Alternative route along Kauri Street with sharrow road markings
From the feedback received in September 2017, this option had more community support than Options A or B. The proposed change would be appropriate for Kauri Street which has less traffic and low vehicle speeds. This route would need to connect to the northern section of Hobart Street.

We expect this project to be progressed as future funding allows, likely in 2019-2020.

The Hobart Street route has two sections. There are three options for the Kedah Street to Wexford Road section and two for the Wexford Road to Miramar Avenue section. A bike path on Hobart Street could connect to Broadway in the future.
It is noted that these Hobart Street design options were developed after the final meeting of the Miramar community working group. The group did not support putting forward options for Hobart Street that would affect footpath widths, trees or parking. As Hobart Street is one of the connecting streets between Miramar and Strathmore Park, the Council felt it was important to test design options with the wider community.
Any impact on bus stops, pedestrian crossings and driveways would be detailed in the next stage of design, likely in 2019-2020.

This option uses the route up Hobart Street, between Kedah Street and Wexford Road. The one-way bike lanes (kerbside or traffic-side) would improve safety for people on bikes, and could encourage less-confident riders to use the route. Parking would have to be removed from one side of the street for this option, unlike Options B and C.

This option uses the route up Hobart Street, between Kedah Street and Wexford Road. The one-way bike lanes (kerbside or traffic-side) would improve safety for people on bikes, and could encourage less-confident riders to use the route. Trees may have to be removed and the footpath narrowed for this option, unlike Options A and C.

This option uses a route with less traffic and lower speeds, reducing crash risk and severity. The alternative route up Kauri Street and Wexford Road is different from Options A and B. This option would cost less than options on the Hobart Street route.

In 2016 – following community open days, discussions with local residents and online feedback – Councillors confirmed the routes and roads that would be used to develop better biking connections.
